This delightful musical play is set in a music hall on the outskirts of London at the turn of the 20th century.
It is not intended wholly to recreate an exact replica of a music hall performance nor to delve too deeply into social history,
but we see the various members of Hewlett's music hall company - singers, solo and double comedy acts, mind-readers - performing
their acts on stage as well as in their more private moments backstage. And then there is the interweaving melodramatic story
involving Gentleman Jim, a debonair thief and master of disguise, and the blackguard Lord Harleston.
