The bar has a general licence (that is, it is open to the public) though the majority of trade is from our members. The profit made by the bar represents a large proportion of the Oasthouse income so it is extremely important to keep it running (we have an alcoholic lifeblood so to speak!).
Staffing of the bar is voluntary and, although we have a small group of volunteers who work a rota, new staff are always welcome. The duties of bar staff are simple - just serve drinks, take the money, wash up glasses, re-stock as necessary, clean the equipment and cash-up at the end of an evening. Don't worry, you won't be thrown in at the deep end - a regular bar steward will spend time with you explaining the mechanics of the bar equipment and the duties. On production nights, there is also likely to be someone else helping you.
Running the bar is a good way for you to meet the other members of the Society - you'll certainly be one of the most popular for the evening that you are on duty!
The bar is open on rehearsal nights (Tuesdays and Thursdays, reduced hours) and all production nights from 7:30pm to 11:00pm.
